Pathology chair candidate to follow pathologists’ evolving role

Dr. Harsh Thaker, former professor and vice chair of operations in the Department of Pathology in the Mount Sinai Health System and candidate for chair of pathology at UMMC, will give the School of Medicine seminar, “The Evolving Role of the Pathologist in Improving Health Care Quality,” from noon-12:50 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Georgetown neuroscientist to explore traumatic brain injury

Dr. Sonia Villapol, assistant professor of neuroscience at Georgetown University Medical Center, will present the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology seminar, “Restoration of the Brain Through the Periphery: Exploring a Novel Therapeutic Avenue for Traumatic Brain Injury,” at noon on Monday, Oct. 2, in room 6A.

Tulane pharmacologist to dissect estrogen signaling, arterial stiffness

Dr. Sarah Lindsey, assistant professor of pharmacology at the Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, will give the Department of Physiology, Mississippi Center for Heart Research and Women’s Health Research Center presentation, “Role of Membrane Initiated Estrogen Signaling in Arterial Stiffness,” from 3-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in room G451.

Arizona physiologist to discuss T cell HTN sex differences

Dr. Heddwen Brooks, professor of physiology, professor of medicine and professor of biomedical engineering in the Department of Physiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine at Tucson, will give the Department of Physiology and the Mississippi Center for Heart Research seminar, “Sex Differences in T Cell-Dependent Hypertension: Role of Menopause in Disease Onset,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 4, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Mayo scientist to talk sex steroids, coupling, age-related bone loss

Dr. Sundeep Khosla, Dr. Francis Chucker and Nathan Landow Research Professor of Medicine and Physiology, Mayo Foundation Distinguished Investigator, director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences and dean of clinical and translational science at the Mayo Clinic, will present “Sex Steroids, Coupling and Age-related Bone Loss” at noon on Thursday, Oct. 5, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

The seminar is sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Obesity Research, the Cardiorenal and Metabolic Diseases Research Center and the Mississippi Center for Clinical and Translational Research.

Sr. Dorothea Sondgeroth, associate executive director of the St. Dominic Health Services Foundation and former CEO and president of St. Dominic Health Services, will present “To Lead or to Be Led: The Blending of Hospital Administration and Religious Life,” at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).
